Peter Liversidge - Proposals for Frome
All of Peter Liversidge’s works begin at the artist’s kitchen table with Liversidge sitting alone writing proposals for potential performances and artworks conceived of in response to different places on an old manual typewriter. Some of these proposals are realised, many are not, but all are united by an underlying streak of dark, absurdist humour and a gently persistent questioning of the world around us.
Peter Liversidge’s contribution to Instructions for an Ordinary Utopia began with the creation of 58 Proposals for Frome that were gathered into this publication of the same name. Liversidge’s amusing and eccentric book features all 58 typewritten proposals ranging from the achievable to the absurd including ideas for social events, architectural alterations, artworks and performances created especially for the town.
